Official survey reveals top 3 green spaces

GUYI Garden in Nanxiang Town, Jiading District, is one of the most popular parks in the city, according to a report released yesterday by the Shanghai Greening and City Appearance Bureau.

“We pay attention to the details, like offering free drinking water facilities at the park’s entrances, providing free toilet paper, and installing electric fans to help people cool down,” said Sun Jia, who works at the garden.

The cost of the “free” toilet paper is covered by the 120,000 yuan (US$19,300) the park makes per day from admission charges during the peak season.

Visitors are charged 12 yuan apiece and the park attracts between 4,000 and 10,000 visitors a day, Sun said.

Minhang Sports Park and Jing’an Sculpture Park also ranked in the top three green spaces, the report said.

The former is free to enter, and its attractions include a wetland area, mini-golf course, and yachting, cycling and fishing facilities.

The latter is also free to enter and features lots of permanent sculptures and visiting installations.
