Museum uses ‘online graffiti’ on its wall

THE city’s longest so-called “graffiti wall” will be completed soon in Changning District, an official said yesterday.
Artists are still painting the 300-meter-long wall on Yan’an Road W., which forms part of the exterior of the Liu Haisu Art Museum, which will open “on a trial basis” on March 19, said Jin Wenyi, its deputy curator.
The wall provides an opportunity for “young artists to express their imagination and creativity,” he said.
Jin said students from the Fine Arts College at Shanghai University copied ideas they had seen on the Internet after seeking the original artists’ permission.
The artists’ names will be written next to the art, but all of the works will be changed annually as part of the museum’s “exhibition for artworks from the Internet,” he said.
The Liu Haisu Art Museum, which features work from the eponymous artist, used to be in the Hongqiao area.
The new site covers 6,000 square meters and will have six exhibition halls — four for permanent displays of Liu’s work and two for visiting items.
The new museum will also have “cutting-edge warehouses for artworks, library, shops and public education areas,” Jin said.
