Museum celebrates roosters

SHANGHAI Science & Technology museum is to present an exhibition for the year of the rooster from today until May 1 to celebrate Chinese lunar New Year, or Spring Festival.

The event will provide young visitors with the chance to learn more about roosters and hens.

The exhibition also represents the museum’s annual exhibition on the Chinese zodiac.

The show resolves to answer questions that the museum collected from both children and adults, such as how do eggs hatch out chicks, why are males so highly colored, and why China is sometimes referred to as “kingdom of pheasants of the world.”

China has 63 species of galliformes, an order of ground-feeding birds that includes chickens, pheasants, partridges and turkeys, accounting for nearly one quarter of the world’s total.

Visitors will also be able to get involved in interactively via workshops, lectures, theme debates and a story saloon.

A 4D science popularization movie on pheasants co-produced by the museum and Shanghai Media Tech will launch on January 28, the first day of the lunar calendar.

The film features five species of pheasants, including the golden pheasant that can be only found in China.

The species, renowned for its colorful plumage, appears in many ancient Chinese artworks.
