‘Milkman’ who milked his clients
A man has been arrested for defrauding residents in downtown Shanghai of more than 10,000 yuan (US$1,440) by pretending to be a milkman, police said.
The suspect, surnamed Wang, allegedly charged his victims up to 1,000 yuan for milk orders for the new year and then disappeared after claiming he had to fetch receipts and milk boxes from downstairs.
Police in Xuhui District, who handled the case, said Wang wasn’t wearing a work costume but fooled his victims by claiming to be “a long-time employee who doesn’t have to wear one.”
Wang confessed that he had targeted old people, defrauding eight of them since October.
Police said that cases of fraudsters pretending to be selling cookers, water purifiers or milk were common occurrences and people should be wary.
