Managers help with bus checks

A BUS company is sending managers and dispatchers to help with security checks on its vehicles, following a spate of arson attacks on China’s buses.
Shanghai Bashi Group said managers and spare dispatchers will conduct spot checks during rush hours along 600 bus routes operated by the group from yesterday.
Checks will take place at bus terminals and the busiest stops along routes, such as those at railway stations.
Security has been beefed up following recent arson attacks on public buses in Hangzhou, Changsha and Guangzhou.
In addition to the checks, drivers and conductors have been told to be on the alert for any suspicious goods brought onto their vehicles.
Passengers with large items of luggage may be required to open them for inspection.
And all Bashi drivers and conductors started to wear armbands reading “security staff” from yesterday.
Staff at bus stations will also check every vehicle at the end of its run.
