Man on the run after stabbing 2 Shanghai shop assistants on downtown Nanjing Road

Police are searching for a man who injured two department store employees with a knife this morning in downtown Huangpu District.

The man, who allegedly came to Shanghai as a tourist, entered a department store on Nanjing Road E. around 10:20am. He soon had a conflict with two shop assistants.

He was seen taking out a knife to stab a salesman in his 20s and cut an artery in his thigh. He then stabbed a saleswoman in the waist.

The injured staff said the man complained about a facial cream priced 20 yuan (US$3.26) a bottle and accused the store of overcharging. A dispute ensued and turned violent.

The man escaped after the attack and police are still searching for him.
