Man ‘dropped feces, urine on neighbors’

A MAN has been detained for allegedly terrorizing neighbors for months by dropping excrement and urine as they passed below his apartment in downtown Jing’an District.
The 40-year-old, whose name was not released, was held by police after a surveillance camera is said to have caught him in the act.
Police claimed to Shanghai Television news that the man, who lives alone, had conducted this campaign to vent his anger at neighbors as he resented their apparently happy lives.
Residents at Shentian community on Beijing Road W. had been subjected to having feces and urine hurled at them in recent months by an unidentified neighbor living on a higher floor.
Some complained of being hit on the head by the waste, with many resorting to using umbrellas to shelter themselves when they ventured out.
Many neighbors also told of finding clothes they had hung out to dry splattered with feces and urine.
“Recently, a boy living here was hit by excrement as he was setting off to take his national college entrance exams,” one elderly resident said. “The boy was left crying and distraught after the sickening incident,” said the woman who said she had also been targeted.
She added: “How could a person do this to others?”
Community security staff reported the repeated attacks to police as complaints mounted and installed five surveillance cameras.
According to police, the man being held was caught red-handed throwing human waste from his apartment.
Surveillance camera footage showed a man opening the window of his flat and tipping a cup of liquid to the ground, which was suspected to be his urine.
The clip also showed a man leaning out of the window and tossing out an object, suspected of being feces, wrapped in newspaper.
