Man ‘blackmailed lover with secret sex videos’

A MAN has been charged with blackmailing his married lover for 2.8 million yuan (US$450,800) after secretly filming them having sex.

The accused, an unemployed 32-year-old surnamed Liu, also secretly took photographs of the woman, surnamed Zhao, while she showered, prosecutors in Baoshan District said yesterday.

If found guilty, he could face more than 10 years in prison.

Prosecutors said Liu met Zhao in an online chatroom in July 2010 and she told him that her husband spent little time with her.

Discovering that Zhao came from a rich family, Liu hatched a blackmail plot, said prosecutors.

In October 2010, Liu is said to have secretly filmed them having sex and covertly photographed Zhao taking a shower.

In February 2011, Liu called Zhao and asked her to lend him money, which she refused to do. But three days later, Zhao received an e-mail from Liu with attachments of some photographs and footage of her, said prosecutors.

When Zhao transferred 50,000 yuan to Liu’s bank account he sent her all the pictures and videos.

However, Liu had kept copies and used them to continue extorting cash from Zhao, it is claimed.

She was threatened with exposure more than 50 times between 2011 and 2014 and paid Liu 2.87 million yuan, said prosecutors.

When Liu called to blackmail her again in May, Zhao called police.

According to police, Liu has confessed to the crime.
