Man ‘acted as pimp for Japanese’
A MAN has been held by police for allegedly acquiring prostitutes for Japanese clients under the guise of a cultural exchange company.
The 36-year-old, surnamed Li, went to Japan after high school in Jiangxi Province and became fluent in Japanese, said police.
After spending years in Japan, Li came to Shanghai and opened a company promoting Japanese culture.
According to police, Li saw opportunities as a pimp for Japanese customers and acted as a go-between them and prostitutes he met at entertainment venues.
Li usually took prostitutes to Japanese clients and served as a translator, particularly for “special requirements,” said police.
He was held during a routine police patrol on December 6, said officers.
