Local projects to use 3D software
SHANGHAI will use a building information modeling software in the construction of major government projects by 2017.
The intelligent model-based process can display the building structure in three dimensions with detailed information such as height and even the diameter of water pipes.
The software can cut costs and enhance productivity.
It has previously been used for projects like the Shanghai Tower, the National Exhibition Center and the central castle in the Shanghai Disney Resort.
“Shanghai has taken the lead among all the Chinese cities in the use of the software,” said Richard Li, sales general manager with Autodesk, the world’s leading provider of the software.
The software will now be used in the new construction of local hospitals, schools, affordable residential houses and other government projects from this year.
The number of new constructions using the technology will double in China to make it one of the world’s top five nations to use the software.
The other countries to use the applications are United Kingdom, South Korea, Australia and Germany.
Shanghai began using the software during the World Expo 2010 with the national pavilion of Germany, the State Grid Pavilion, the SAIC-GM Pavilion and the Austria Pavilion promoting the use of the technology, but the software did not make big inroads into China.
