Less hassle involved to get ID card
FROM next month, people from out of town can apply for new national ID cards at their local Shanghai police station without needing as many documents as had been required.
However, they must have first recorded their personal data in the city’s population information registration system, police announced.
The rule applies to applications for new ID cards or for replacements for lost identity cards. Applicants must either be employed or be studying in Shanghai and have registered addresses.
As long as this is the case, they will no longer need to produce documents to prove their working and studying status in Shanghai. But they will still need to show one of the following documents — hukou, (local residency), passport, or driving license, police said.
