Inspectors target care homes

SHANGHAI’S civil affairs authorities began a citywide inspection of senior care homes yesterday and warned any agencies found with irregularities will be ordered to finish rectification before the end of October.

The inspection will target the operation, management, service, security and staff of senior homes.

Those whose service quality is not up to standard will be ordered to rectify, while senior care homes found to have abused or bullied the elderly will be blacklisted, according to the Shanghai Civil Affairs Bureau.

They will also be blacklisted if accidents occur due to a lack of safety or if there are illegal financial activities.

Shanghai has registered more than 700 senior care homes, and the average age of their residents is 82.28 years old.
