Hunt on for holder of US$1.2m lottery ticket

THE race is on to identify the holder of a 7.3 million yuan (US$1.2 million) lottery ticket, as the Sunday deadline for claiming the prize approaches.

The Shanghai Welfare Lottery Center said yesterday that it has opened a hotline — 13916743987 — for the winner to call in the hope he or she can claim the jackpot prize in time. The winning ticket was sold on July 24 at an outlet on Lanxi Road in Putuo District. According to lottery rules, the money will be given to the social welfare fund if not claimed in time.

In June 2011, a 10-million- yuan lottery prize went to the city’s social welfare fund as the winner failed to show up. It was the biggest jackpot ever to go unclaimed in the city.
