Hologram of Buddha for temple
A HISTORIC temple to be rebuilt near Hongqiao International Airport in Minhang District will feature a giant hologram of the Buddha.
The new Yuantong Temple will replace the structure demolished to make way for the Hongqiao traffic hub in 2006, officials said yesterday.
Set to cover 6,000 square meters in Huacao Town, Yuantong Temple will help ease the shortage of Buddhist temples in the area, a town government official said.
Set for completion in 2016, the new Yuangtong Temple will be in the Tang Dynasty (AD 618-907) style. On top of the 39-meter main building will be a 20-meter tall hologram of Guanyin Bodhisattva, projected on the first and 15th of every lunar month.
The old temple was temporarily relocated in an old factory building and still attracts a large number of Buddhists from the area.
