Hike in electricity usage
THE electricity usage in east China region reached a record high of 212,900 megawatts yesterday afternoon as temperatures continued to climb, the State Grid said. Shanghai’s power usage hit 25,680 megawatts at around 3pm, while the power consumption also surged in neighboring Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui and Fujian provinces.
The State Grid will make a forecast on the electricity use and spare reserved electricity for residents, the country’s power supplier said. The Shanghai Power Electric Co Ltd usually limits the power consumption for some factories in parts of the city if electricity usage exceeded around 29,000 megawatts.
