Fox hunt nets man from Canada

A SUSPECT involved in a 4 million yuan (US$586,960) fraud has been extradited from Canada, Shanghai police said yesterday.

The man surnamed Du arrived in Shanghai on June 20. He is the first suspect extradited from Canada since China launched its Fox Hunt campaign that targets economic suspects and corrupt Party members and government officials who have fled overseas.

Du was suspected of swindling more than 4 million yuan in 2012. He fled to Canada in December that year.

Shanghai police informed the Canadian law enforcement authorities about Du’s alleged crimes in April 2013 and asked for Canada’s help to bring him back.
