Five held for running sex videos app

FIVE people have been arrested for running an app offering “a large amount” of sex videos and profiting over 600,000 yuan (US$87,000) from them, police said.
One of the women who uploaded her sex tapes to the app has also been arrested, and police said yesterday they were gathering evidence against others involved.
Police in Jiading District said they had started an investigation last month after they found that a video app called “Youshi,” which contained amateur sex tapes, could be downloaded for a fee.
It was not hard for them to find the “top click” app item — featuring a woman surnamed He, who used her real name and who lived in the district, police said.
Police traveled to the southwestern city of Chongqing to arrest those running the app from an Internet company based in the city.
He, a 35-year-old married woman and mother of a 10-year-old girl, was said by police to charge her “followers” about 300 yuan for access to her most intimate videos including sex with different men. Police added that they had found about 100 such videos from her account.
He told Shanghai Daily that she had made about 200,000 yuan from last July to April from the app.
The founder of the company behind the app surnamed Zhou told Shanghai Daily that He was among the women who were allowed to upload videos without being instantly censored because they had a large base of followers willing to pay to watch the videos.
Zhou claimed that He and some others usually uploaded the sex videos at night and deleted them by early morning.
The iOS and Android versions of the app had about 20,000 downloads since December, Zhou said.
Police said they found more than 30,000 videos from the company, but they were still counting the number of sexually explicit videos.
The suspects could face criminal charges of spreading objects with sex content, police said.
