Elevator firms told to up game
THE city’s quality watchdog has ordered 17 elevator maintenance companies in the city to rectify irregularities in quality management and staff qualification.
The companies, which include Shanghai Qingpu Elevator Factory, Shanghai Weijin Elevator Project Co, and Shanghai Dongsheng Elevator Project Co, had the worst evaluation results among 270 elevator maintenance companies in the city that were checked by Shanghai Quality Inspection and Supervision Bureau.
Some maintenance companies were found to have leases permits to other companies and to have failed to repair and maintain elevators based on safety technique requirements, according to the bureau.
In addition, the number of some of their maintenance workers, technicians and appliances did not meet the requirement and they did not establish a maintenance record based on the requirement, the bureau added.
They have been asked to rectify the situation and will face punishments such as fines or having their licenses revoked if they fail to do so, officials warned.
The city had more than 222,103 elevators in use by the end of last year, up 7.7 percent from a year earlier.
