Driver, who fled after killing a pedestrian with his car, surrenders
A 32-year-old driver, who crashed into a pedestrian that led to his death in the Pudong New Area, surrendered himself to the police over the weekend.
Police received a report of the incident at 9:15pm on Friday. On reaching the spot, they found the driver had already fled. The 28-year-old victim, surnamed Wei, was rushed to a nearby hospital. He died of a brain hemorrhage the next day.
On Saturday, the driver surrendered after the police traced his Audi car.
The surveillance video showed the driver, surnamed Qi, entering a shopping center complex Friday evening and then suddenly speeding. Qi's car knocked down Wei in front of a KFC outlet. Qi did not stop his car or even slowed down after the incident. Instead, he damaged some barriers at the shopping center and fled.
Police said it was still not clear if Qi was drunk or under the influence of drugs.
