Dianshan lake bridge on way to completion

CONSTRUCTION on a bridge spanning Dianshan Lake is scheduled to be finished in September.

It is part of a project to improve the ecological environment and the flood prevention ability of the city’s largest lake.

The 1.47-kilometer-long bridge in Zhujiajiao Town, in west suburban Qingpu District, connects the lake’s Shanghai aquatic sports center to the border of Jiangsu Province.

The 8-meter-wide bridge will be accessible to pedestrians, cyclists and small sightseeing vehicles, the district government said. The official opening time of the bridge has yet to be decided.

A wetland construction and an ecological improvement project are under way, along with the construction of the bridge. Flood prevention dams have been reinforced along with newly built and renovated floodgates.

Construction on the bridge started in May 2015 after the district legislators proposed to build the bridge over the lake to improve the environment and attract local residents as well as tourists.
