City to party all week with music and magic

SCENIC spots and parks across the city will host 59 events from firework displays and flower exhibitions to music and food festivals during the weeklong National Day holiday starting tomorrow — National Day itself, Shanghai Tourism Administration announced.

Jazz, rock and symphonic music will be played at Chenshan Botanical Garden, with the staging of an international music carnival through the week.

Musicians from the United States, Mauritius and Italy will perform and are expected to amaze visitors with their voices and talent.

Garden villa runs will be held at the Fuxing Road W. area in Xuhui District.

Visitors will be invited to run alongside historical buildings like the Normandie Apartments (Wukang Building), designed by the renowned Hungarian architect Laszlo Hudec, and the former residence of Soong Ching Ling, wife of Dr Sun Yat-sen, the founder of modern China.

There will also be street flash-mob shows, creative markets and jazz concerts in the area on the first three days of the holiday.

Shanghai Happy Valley will present “a magic world” with the opening of an international magic festival. Magicians from 10 countries will perform escape magic, illusion and close-up magic shows.

Binjiang Forest Park’s “autumn outing season” features a flower exhibition, with more than 20,000 square meters of various flowers to add a splash of color to the riverside park.

Jinshan City Beach will host a music fireworks festival with fireworks displays presented by teams from China, Canada, Greece and Mexico on Sunday and Thursday.

Visitors to Gongqing Forest Park will be able to imbibe authentic Munich beer and delicacies from across the world as well as enjoying jazz and rock music performed by international bands.

Meanwhile about 300 sculpture works by 24 outstanding artists from seven countries and regions are exhibited at the Jing’an Sculpture Park.

At Zhujiajiao Water Town, 47 bands and Rickie Lee Jones, a two-time Grammy Award winner from the United States, are gathered to dazzle music lovers with their performances.

The Zhujiajiao Water Town Music Festival features folk, rock and electronic music. The festival also includes a creative market and a food culture exhibition.

During the seven-day holiday, Shanghai International Tourism and Resorts Zone is expected to receive 130,000 visitors a day on average, while the daily visitor number in Shanghai Disneyland is expected to hit 60,000.

Budweiser STORM Music Festival, which is popular among local electronic music fans, will be held at Shanghai International Tourism and Resorts Zone tomorrow and Sunday.

Another music festival, Shanghai Urban Simple Life festival, which features popular singers and groups in China will be held from Tuesday to Thursday in Shanghai Expo Park.

American singer Kesha will have her world-tour concert in Shanghai Gymnasium on October 4. Mayday, a popular music band from Taiwan, will also launch a three-day concert in Shanghai Stadium on Tuesday.
