City opens first comminity-based senior care and medical station
A community-based senior care and medical station, the first of its kind in the city, was established in Changning District today on the Chongyang Festival.
The Jiangsu Road residential community is an aging neighborhood with about one third of its residents above 60 years old, according to the Changning District Civil Affairs Bureau.
Seniors are able to receive medical treatment, take prescription, and have rehabilitation and nursing service at the station and pay by their medical insurance cards.
They can also reserve door-to-door clinical nursing service such as intramuscular injection and glucose monitoring via the center.
The 200-square-meter station has general practitioners, nurses, doctors of traditional Chinese medicine and rehabilitation physicians. It is operated by Shanghai Yijia Elder Caring Center, a senior care service provider which has inked an agreement with the Jiangsu Road community health service center for the station.
Feng Baozhen, a woman in her 60s, said the station is convenient for local residents.
"It takes me almost half an hour to visit hospital near my home, and there are usually long queues, but now we can come here whenever we want," she said.
The trial is expected to launch in more residential communities in Changning and other districts, according to civil affairs authorities.
