Bus driver sentenced for crash
A bus driver who crashed into a pillar last year on Yan’an Road W. causing two deaths and injuring 20 was sentenced to four years’ imprisonment, Changning District People’s Court ruled yesterday, according to Shanghai Television Station.
The driver, Shen Zhilin, was at the wheel of a No.44 bus on June 10 last year when the accident happened. As Shen was also severely injured in the accident and was in a coma for one month, he had been on bail until now, the television station said.
Shen was formally charged last April. He said he had lost control of his body when the accident happened, because he suffered from hypertension and heart disease, the report said.
But the judicial expertise center ruled out the possibility that Shen’s driving capacity had been affected by his medical problems, based on his physical examinations before and treatment after the accident, said the report. The court sentenced Shen for “causing traffic casualties.”
