Bund’s ‘fake money’ nightclub closes
A NIGHTCLUB that was wrongly linked to the New Year’s Eve tragedy on the Bund has closed its doors.
“I’ve been told by my supervisor that the business (M18) has been suspended,” Eva Chen, an employee of Hengyi Property, which manages Bund 18, the property in which the club is located, told Shanghai Daily yesterday.
According to the English-language version of the Bund 18’s website, the venue is “Temporary Close.”
On New Year’s Eve, patrons of the nightclub threw promotional coupons that looked like US dollar bills down on to the Bund, which some social media suggested at the time was the spark cause of the tragedy. Police, however, ruled out any link as the notes were not thrown until after the fatal crush occurred.
