Broke welder ‘targets ATM’

A migrant welder who allegedly attempted to steal money from an ATM by cutting it open early yesterday morning has been detained, Jiading police said.
The man, a lottery enthusiast surnamed Zhao who spent all his money on tickets, planned the theft at a bank on Hongde Road in Jiading District because he couldn’t afford to return to his hometown for the Spring Festival, police said.
