Boy still missing after leaving school early

A 13-year-old boy, who went missing on Tuesday, has not yet been found.

Li Ziren has not been seen in person since leaving school on his bicycle. Earlier in the day he had been in trouble for not doing his homework.

Police said the boy had been spotted on a surveillance camera on a bus in Taichang City, Jiangsu Province, on Wednesday morning.

Police said officers were continuing to search for him.

His father told Shanghai Daily yesterday that he and his wife were called to Shanghai Yucai Junior High School on Tuesday afternoon because his son had repeatedly forgotten to do his Chinese homework.

His teacher asked them to take the boy home early before school lessons were over.

“He might feel humiliated as it was the first time for us to be called by his teacher to go to the school for a face-to-face talk and he was taken out of class to return home with us,” the boy’s father said.

“He has been good at academic study and we did not scold him fiercely that day.” His son did not show any strong emotion at the day’s events,” he added.

Li Ziren didn’t go back in his parents’ car as he had cycled to school. He set off on his bicycle at about 4:15pm. His home is about a 15-20 minute ride from the school.

“We have to find him as soon as possible,” said his father.

“He has some money to live without starving for about one week to 10 days, but it’s rainy and cold, and we cannot imagine other potential risks.”

The boy was wearing his school uniform, dark blue with a white collar, and a white T-shirt when he went missing.
