4 killed after car overturns near airport
THREE Chinese tourists and their hotel shuttle car driver were killed when their vehicle overturned on an elevated road near Pudong International Airport sometime after 4am yesterday, police said.
Two were killed after falling out the car, and two were pronounced dead at the hospital. Three others were injured.
Pudong New Area People’s Hospital told Shanghai Daily that the three injured passengers, two women and one man, were not critically hurt, but they had suffered leg, arm and back injuries. They were devastated because all of them had lost a relative or close friend in the accident.
The party had been picked up at the airport at about 4am, to be transported to a nearby Jinjiang Inn hotel when the accident took place.
The driver, a 36-year-old man surnamed Shi who was employed at the hotel, which has not been identified, was killed in the accident.
The accident took place on the S1 Expressway near its off-ramp to Huazhou Road, according to the police.
