3 printers in court for pirating publications

THREE men went on trial yesterday at the Yangpu District People’s Court charged with the unauthorized publishing of books, including two works by President Xi Jinping.
Defendant He Aiwei, the 26-year-old owner of a printing company, is alleged to have begun selling the pirated books on taobao.com in March 2012.
He downloaded the works — including Xi’s “Out of Poverty” and “232 Essays of Xi Jinping” — from the Internet, and then printed and bound them, prosecutors said.
He was assisted by co-defendants Yang Xiongwei and Cai Zhihua, the owners of a second printing company, who provided the covers for the books, they said.
Over a two-year period, the men sold more than 4,600 copies of the pirated works, prosecutors said.
Their revenue was about 80,000 yuan (US$13,000), of which about 20,000 yuan was profit, the court said.
He’s attorney said in court that his client was a young man with little education, and that he was unaware that what he was doing was against the law.
A verdict is pending.
