27 amusement operations are suspended
TWENTY-SEVEN big amusement facilities in the city have been suspended from operating because of safety hazards.
The city’s quality watchdog announced the suspensions yesterday as it conducted a safety drill at Playa Maya water park in Songjiang District ahead of the summer peak season for amusement parks.
Officials with Shanghai Quality and Technical Supervision Bureau said the hazards included old safety belts and rusting protective systems.
Operators have been ordered to eliminate the hazards, officials said. The names of the operators were not disclosed.
Shanghai had by this month registered 295 “big amusement equipments,” used by 57 operators.
The drill at the Playa Maya park involved a woman being trapped inside a slide. The drill tests the response speed of the park operator. In this case, the woman was released after five minutes.
