2 killed at local shipyard

TWO shipbuilders were crushed to death yesterday when a large steel component that was being lifted into place by a crane broke free and fell on top of them.
The pair, a 32-year-old man surnamed Liu and a 30-year-old woman surnamed Jie, were rushed to hospital, but pronounced dead on arrival, Shanghai TV reported.
Two other people, a man and a woman both aged 30, suffered severe traumas to their heads and backs, the television report said.
A local work safety official told Shanghai Daily that the incident happened at a shipyard in Chongming County, which is owned and run by Shanghai Jiangnan-Changxing Shipbuilding Co.
An investigation is under way, said the official.
