12 arrested for running illegal gambling
TWELVE people have been arrested for allegedly running casinos on a poker game in rural Shanghai where about 40 million yuan (US$60,000) in bets were placed in a year.
Fifteen others are on bail pending trial for playing minor roles in the illegal scheme.
Police said the gang organized gambling in temporary venues “in wilderness” and held about 400 sessions from April last year, skimming 10 percent from all the bets.
The gang had created clear division of work for its members with some of them scouting venues, arranging and transporting the gamblers and looking out for intruders and police when the gambling sessions were on.
Police said they first heard of them in Jinshan District in January this year.
