Wet and cool for holiday

THE approaching typhoon Meranti is set to mean a rainy Mid-Autumn Festival for Shanghai, forecasters said.

The festival, which falls on Thursday, is a holiday whereby families traditionally get together under a full moon and eat mooncakes. But the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau said skies would be overcast with occasional drizzle this week and showers might fall on Thursday, threatening to spoil the festivities.

After developing in the northwest Pacific Ocean on Saturday, Meranti is moving westward and approaching eastern China regions. It is expected to land on Taiwan around tomorrow, and then Fujian and Guangdong provinces on Thursday.
