Time to rug up: spring is not here yet
RAIN began drenching the city yesterday, ending days of warm and sunny weather in what should have been the onset of spring this week.
The mercury will drop dramatically from today, to 8-10 degrees Celsius. Heavy rain is expected to stop tonight.
The weather will be overcast to cloudy from tomorrow to Friday and highs are not expected to pass 14 degrees as a cold front sweeps in, forecasters said.
Air quality will be fine in the first half of the week, the environmental protection authority said.
Officially, spring begins after five consecutive days with an average temperature above 10 degrees. Highs ranged between 11 and 12.5 degrees from Thursday to Saturday before the cold front and rains hit.
Weather bureau data shows spring normally begins about March 25. The earliest in the 143 years of official records was February 9 last year.
