Tianshui most congested road in Shanghai

SHANGHAI citizens travel 17.2 kilometers in 46 minutes on average to reach office every day, the third longest distance in China after Beijing and Guangzhou.

A report released by Baidu Map claimed Tianshui Road in Hongkou District was the most congested road in Shanghai with vehicles moving at 20.6km per hour on average during rush hours. It was followed by Gutai Road in Baoshan District (24.5km/h) and Xizang Road M. in Huangpu District (27.2km).

Beijing topped the working distance covered at 18.9km. Citizens in the capital city spend an average of 50 minutes to reach office every day. In Guangzhou, the capital of southern Guangdong Province, the figure was 18km and 40 minutes. Among all the roads in China’s four busiest cities — Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen — Guangzhou’s Zhongshan No. 6 Road had the slowest average car speed of 15.5km/h during office hours, which was the same as riding a bicycle! The average car speed on busy roads in the four cities was around 20km/h, the report claimed.

The rush hour traffic in Hangzhou in Zhejiang Province was listed as the most “inefficient” in the report. Despite an average distance of 8.7km from home to office, Hangzhou citizens spend 24 minutes on the way, meaning the average travel speed was 21km/h — slower than all the major cities in China.

Baidu Map, operated by China’s largest search engine Baidu, boasts 500 million users. The report was said to be based on data collected from users in 2015.
