Thunderstorms for city during upcoming holiday as Meranti nears

THUNDERSTORMS are forecasted for all three days of the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday under the influence of super typhoon Meranti, which is set to land in coastal provinces of Fujian and Guangdong in east China early tomorrow.

Meranti will get weakened around wee hours of Friday after moving to Jiangxi Province. But typhoon Malakas will take over Meranti, and may affect China’s eastern coastal regions on Saturday, continuing to bring rainfalls to Shanghai.

This morning, 45.5 millimeters of precipitation poured in the Jinshan District. From this afternoon to tomorrow, Shanghai will see precipitation of 30 to 50 millimeters, and in some areas it will hit 40 to 70 millimeters on Friday and Saturday, forecasters said.
