Qufu Road Metro station commuters face detour when transferring

METRO commuters will have to take a detour when transferring from Line 12 to Line 8 at the Qufu Road Station during rush hour starting Saturday to improve traffic flow.

The Qufu Road Station consists of three levels, and the platforms of Line 8 and 12 are located on the first and second levels, respectively. During rush hours, passengers from Line 12 to 8 will have to take escalators at the two ends of the platform up to the ground floor first, before proceeding down one level to the platform for Line 8. Commuters from Line 8 to 12 can avoid the detour.

"The one-way traffic is designed to help ease the burden of Line 8 at the conjunction station," Zhu Zhenhua, Line 12 managing director, told media who were shown around the new platform on Tuesday.

According to Zhu, Line 12 ferries 130,000 passengers a day, while Line 8, equipped with smaller trains, has to take 900,000 passengers a day. The detour is expected to decrease the density of passengers transferring from Line 12 to Line 8, as the latter is already burdened during rush hours.

The first Line 12 train leaves Qufu Road Station at 5:57am, and the last one on 10:17pm. Train intervals and timetables of other stations along the line will remain the same.

Meanwhile, passengers can scan the QR code pasted in corridors of the Qufu Road Station with their smartphones to get information about Qufu Road Station facilities and directions to nearby neighborhoods.

The QR codes leading to station information will be applied to other stations in the city's Metro network if the trial at Qufu Road Station works well. An English version of the information will become available in two months.
