Park with hexagonal pavilion built in 1940s reopens after major revamp
Xiangyang Park, one of the city's oldest and most famous parks, opens to the public today after a year-long renovation was completed. The park is located nera the Huaihai Road M. shopping complex.
The renovation involved pulling down the park’s outer walls and adding five more entry gates. Previously, visitors could only enter the park through a gate at the intersection of Shaanxi Road S. and Xiangyang Road N.
The park has been renovated into a “classic French style garden”.
The park’s signature structure, a hexagonal pavilion built in the 1940s, was also repaired and repainted. Extra surveillance cameras and more lights have been installed.
Cultural activities such as musical concerts and painting exhibitions will also be organized to enrich the life of nearby residents, park officials said.
