New tunnel to be built next month to ease congestion in Caohejing area

CONSTURCTION will kick off early next month on a new tunnel beneath a road, which is separated by the Middle Ring Road, in order to ease traffic congestions in the Caohejing area during rush hours, officials said today.
The 86-meter tunnel along Tianlin Road with three vehicle lanes and two bicycle lanes will become a major traffic artery between the Xuhui and Minhang districts after its completion by the end of 2018, said the Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Co., who is in charge of the construction.
