Month of rain? Don’t believe it
SHANGHAI a washout for a whole month? Nonsense.
Social media has gone into a frenzy over a fake forecast stating the city faces a month-long soaking — but forecasters say only a three-day weather forecast can be relied upon to be relatively accurate.
Shanghai Meteorological Bureau said the rogue online report that went viral, causing some alarm, was just a rumor.
But away from the online hype, today will see the plum rain belt move to the lower and middle stream of the Yangtze River.
Downpours and overcast skies are forecast today. There will be no break in the rain tomorrow, which will see moderate to heavy rainfall.
The forecasters say intensive and continuous downpours will occur on Saturday, but will become weaker on Sunday.
Temperatures will remain stable, ranging from 23 to 28 degrees Celsius. But the high humidity, which reached 95 percent yesterday, may make people feel uncomfortable, forecasters said.
Yesterday was summer solstice, the longest day and shortest night of the year.
From today onward, daylight gradually shrinks as night-time expands.
After summer solstice, thunderstorms will often come in the afternoon because of the unstable balance of hot and cold air.
