Mercury to drop as heavy rains set to hit city tonight

A thunderstorm is expected to hit the city tonight, the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau announced today.

With a rainfall of 40 to 70 millimeters predicted, the morning rush hour traffic tomorrow is likely to be affected. Some parts of the city are likely to see even heavier rainfalls of up to 70 to 100 millimeters with the hourly rain increasing to a high of 20 to 40 millimeters.

The expected storm will cool the mercury by 5 degrees Celsius with the high dropping to 22 degrees.

After a one-day break, another round of showers will hit the city on Friday night and last through Saturday daytime. Clear skies will return on Sunday followed by a jump in temperatures.
