Line 17 well on track to completion
METRO Line 17 is expected to be in place by the end of this year, and operating by the end of next year. It will connect suburban Qingpu District and the downtown area.
Line 17 is one of nine new lines, totaling 216 kilometers, to be added to the city’s existing Metro network.
All nine lines are undergoing construction, and most of them are more than halfway finished.
Jing’an Temple, Dashijie, Wuning Road and Wuding Road, among other stations, will launch constructions for the new lines by the end of this year.
The new stations are expected to relieve the pressure on stations in downtown areas and make it easier for passengers to transfer between lines, the Metro operator said.
Line 17’s construction started in 2014.
Now 12 of the 13 stations have been completed, with 95 percent of the route connected.
