Lane closures on bridge to Chongming
LANES on the Yangtze River Bridge will be shut down over the next 70 days while the surface of the bridge is revamped, Shanghai traffic police said yesterday.
The bridge, a major passage linking Chongming Island to the rest of the city, will be fully reopened to traffic before the National Day holiday in October when a large number of tourists are expected.
From now till August 11, all four lanes in the direction of the urban area to Chongming will be shut down, while the lanes in the other direction will remain open with two assigned to traffic from the urban area.
Meanwhile, the emergency lane in the direction of the urban area to Chongming will be open except during non-rush hours from Monday to Thursday for traffic in this direction.
In the next 38 days after that, construction work will be switched to the other direction, but three lanes will still be reserved for traffic from the urban area to Chongming.
