Hot, cloudy weather to continue
THE hot, cloudy weather should continue for another two days, but a cold front is expected to bring rain and cooler temperatures from Sunday, forecasters said yesterday.
Today will be cloudy with intermittent showers in northern areas of the city in the afternoon, and the temperature should range between 28 and 36 degrees Celsius.
The air quality is expected to be excellent in the morning and good to excellent in the afternoon.
Both the high and low should rise 1 degree tomorrow, which will be cloudy with thundershowers in the afternoon in some areas. The air quality should be good to excellent.
On Sunday, thundershowers are forecasted, and the mercury will reach 34 degrees from a low of 27 degrees.
It will be cloudy on Monday with the temperature unchanged.
On Tuesday, the mercury will hit 35 degrees under cloudy skies, according to the bureau.
The Shanghai Meteorological Bureau issued a yellow alert for heat yesterday at 10:56am, warning that the mercury would soar to around 36 degrees in downtown and some suburban districts yesterday under the influence of the subtropical high pressure system.
The highest temperature recorded by the benchmark Xujiahui weather station was 35.7 degrees yesterday, according to the bureau. Yesterday was the sixth high-temperature day in a row, and the city’s 22nd this summer, surpassing the average 16.5 days in previous years.
Fewer typhoons affected Shanghai directly this summer, according to forecasters.
Tropical Storm Omais and typhoons Conson and Chanthu have moved north, while Typhoon Dianmu, which arrived at the city of Leizhou, south China’s Guangdong Province, yesterday afternoon, will not affect Shanghai, the bureau said.
