Extra transport to deal with 10m air passengers

AIRPORT bus, Metro and Maglev services are being extended over the Spring Festival holiday to cope with more than 10 million passengers.

Shanghai Pudong International Airport and Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport expect to handle 10.05 million passengers between February 4 to March 16 — up more than 5 percent on last year.

Chinese New Year falls on February 19 this year and huge numbers of people head home for the holiday, while others take advantage of the break to jet out on winter holidays. The Shanghai Airport Authority said it will run more frequent late bus services at both airports according to passenger flow.

Currently, the late bus service from Pudong airport operates from 11pm, running every 45 minutes until 45 minutes after the last flight.

Metro operator Shanghai Shentong said between February 4 and March 16 it will run two additional Line 2 trains from Hongqiao Railway Station and Hongqiao International Airport after the usual final service at 10:48pm.

Passengers should check the Metro operator website www.shmetro.com. This is available in English.

Meanwhile, two additional Maglev services are being run from Pudong airport.

Maglev services from the airport will be extended to 10:40pm.
