Extra safety check required at local airports starting Monday
ALL passengers and baggage will receive an additional safety check for anti-terrorism concern at Shanghai’s two airports from Monday (August 15).
The anti-terrorism checks will be carried out at the entrances and exits of the terminal buildings of Pudong and Hongqiao international airports from Monday midnight.
Airport authorities gave no reason for the security upgrade, which is launched ahead of the G20 Summit to be held in Shanghai’s neighboring Hangzhou City on September 4 and 5 when the national leaders of Group 20 countries will be present.
“Passengers are reminded not to take flammable, explosive materials and controlled knives as well as other prohibited stuff to the airports,” the Shanghai Airport Authority said.
Passengers are also advised to come to airports earlier to receive the checks that will take longer time, the authority said.
The additional checks are launched according to the nation’s Anti-terrorism Law, the authority added.
The items banned in both carry-on and checked baggage also include corrosive substances such as liquid storage batteries, toxic pesticides as well as ferromagnetic and stuff with pungent odors, according to the airport authority.
Kitchen knives, clippers and other knives for daily use as well as liquid exceeding amount limits must be checked.
