Extension ends road bottleneck

YANGPU District has extended a dead-end road to relieve traffic pressure on nearby roads as well as to prevent the area from being flooded by use of innovative permeable road tiles, officials said yesterday.

The tens of thousands residents living in residential communities along Anbo Road will be able to reach the Wujiaochang commercial center through the 300-meter new west section of the road between Shuangyang Road N. and Guoding Road E. by the end of the month.

Major construction has been completed to extend the road with four vehicle lanes.

Workers are paving the permeable tiles on the three-meter-wide pedestrian ways on both sides in a trial operation to test the effectiveness of the tiles, a district official said.

The grey tiles allowed rainwater to penetrate to purify and supply the underground water system, a project supervisor said.
