Elderly care homes to get 7,000 more beds
THE Shanghai government plans to add 7,000 beds to senior care facilities and open a further 40 elderly daycare centers by the end of the year.
The move is designed to tackle an acute shortage, the Shanghai Civil Affairs Bureau said yesterday. As of the end of last year, the city had 115,000 senior care beds. Authorities also plan to open 40 more canteens at residential complexes to provide low-cost meals to the elderly. A training program for senior care nurses will also be continued this year, the bureau said.
