Drop in government jobs and applicants
BOTH the number of city civil service jobs and the number of applicants have decreased from last year, according to a study.
Some 59,000 applicants will tomorrow sit the exam to compete for 4,275 positions in Shanghai government institutes, according to the Shanghai branch of Offcn Education, an exam-oriented training company. This compares to 68,000 people taking the exam for 4,478 jobs last year. The decline in vacancies reflects a national campaign to downsize governmental bodies, while the drop in applicants is due to tougher requirements, say experts.
