Downtown traffic restrictions in place

TRAFFIC restrictions will be implemented in downtown areas during the National Day holiday, local police said yesterday.

The restrictions will be in place from 3:30pm to 11:30pm from tomorrow through Friday.

A large area of Puxi will be off limits to vehicles including the Bund. The no-go zone will be in effect from Huaihai Road in the south to Qufu, Tiantong and Liyang roads in the north. The western limit to the zone are Chengdu and Xizang roads.

In Pudong, vehicles are not allowed into the area enclosed by Lujiazui Ring Road, Shibu and Baibu streets.

However, vehicles can still use those roads, police said.

Meanwhile, Nansuzhou, Henan and Renmin roads and the area they enclose will be off-limits to bicycles, scooters and mopeds.

Nanjing Road E. station, shared by Metro lines 2 and 10, will be closed during the period to avoid overcrowding, police said.

The Bund Sightseeing Tunnel will also be closed.

Bus routes 145, 167, 576 and 805 will stop operating during the period. Other routes, including 20, 33, 42, 49 and 55, will be shortened, police said.

Armed police will be patrolling areas where large crowds gather to ensure security, officers said. The areas include shopping centers, scenic spots, airports, docks, railway stations and transport hubs.
