Delivery firms back in business after holiday

COURIER firms began restoring normal operations today as deliverymen returned to work after the Spring Festival earlier than usual.

Major courier firms like SF, STO, ZTO, YTO and Yunda said customers face fewer delays as parcels accumulated during the holiday will be delivered within a few days.

SF Express also announced today it had canceled the 10 yuan (US$1.6) service fee for delivery during the festival. The courier firm also restored its one-day express delivery service that was suspended during the holiday.

China Post Express Mail Service said many of its parcels to second and third-tier cities had been delayed during the holiday due to lack of manpower, as well as snowy and foggy weather in some regions. It added that it was now operating at normal staff levels.

?The number of parcels actually decreased during the holiday because many online stores stopped accepting orders for fear of shipping delays,? a STO Express employee said.

It marked an earlier return to normalcy for the courier firms compared to recent years, when full service wasn?t restored until the Lantern Festival, or the 15th day of the lunar year.
